The Penn State Alumni AssociationWhat’s been happening: WWII Vet,3rd Army. Discharged July 1946. Enrolled at Penn State (Edinboro) Sept 1946 Accepted a job with Westinghose Air Brake Company (WABCO) on graduation. Stayed with them through 1973, holding various managerial positions in Engineering and Marketing. Left to join Rohr Industries in California as Program and Engineering Mgr for development and manufacture of 7 gas turbine-powered trains for Amtrak. Lured back to WABCO in 1977 where in 1980 I became VP and GM of WABCO LTD in Canada. Retired in 1986 and formed my own consulting firm, J.R. Pier & Associates. Provided support for various High Speed Rail Programs in the US and actively participated in organizations such as the Transportation Research Board of the National Research Council in Washington, DC. Presently doing consulting only at the request of friends in the industry. Married Betty Ann Simpson on November 7, 1953. We have four grown children and six grandchildren. On my retirement from WABCO Ltd, elected to remain in Canada where we reside in a rural area close enough to get to shopping centers in a few minutes but well separated from city noise and congestion. |
